Volunteer with the Herd
Every animal here is cared for by people who give their time. There is a job for you, whatever your experience with equines.
Ways to help
Most of what we do is ordinary daily care, done well and done every day. Some of it takes muscle, some of it takes patience, and some of it happens at a desk.
Daily care. Feeding, hauling water, mucking pens and shelters, and keeping an eye on who is eating and who is not.
Grooming and handling. Brushing, halter time, picking hooves, and quiet company for animals still learning to trust people.
Property and fences. Fence repair, shelter upkeep, pasture clean-up, and the endless small fixes a working sanctuary needs.
Events and outreach. Open days, fundraisers, school visits, and staffing our table at community events.
Skills from home. Photography, social media, bookkeeping, grant writing, and transport for vet visits and new arrivals.
What to expect
Outdoor, hands-on work in all weather. Closed-toe boots and clothes that can get dirty are essential.
An orientation with an experienced volunteer before you work around the animals on your own.
A regular shift if you can commit to one, or scheduled work days if you can't. Both matter.
A short volunteer agreement and liability waiver. Ask us about age requirements for younger helpers.
Getting started
Tell us about yourself. Use the contact form and mention what you'd like to do and when you're available.
Come for an orientation. We'll reply with the next dates, show you around, and introduce you to the herd.
Pick your first shift. Start with a supervised session, then settle into whatever rhythm works for you.
