Pepe

Pepe was spotted by a county sheriff on a rural road outside of Asheville, hooves overgrown and ribs showing. He arrived at the sanctuary nervous and reactive — every loud noise sent him to the back of the stall.

Six months later, after careful handling and a steady routine, Pepe is one of our most curious and people-friendly donkeys. He loves a good ear scratch, follows volunteers around the paddock, and is ready to be matched with a quiet rural home with at least one other equine companion.
